Five Curly Hair Hacks

If you have trouble with your curly hair, raise your hand. Yup, so did I! After so much trial and error I’ve figured out how to keep my hair reasonably healthy. When I was younger my hair was even curlier than it is now. I never had ringlets. My curls were quite soft, but something happened during puberty where my hair was a hot mess. It was frizzy and I could not style it for the life of me. I was so envious of girls who had the straight and voluminous hair. I just wanted straight hair! Straightening my hair was the biggest mission because not only did I not know how to do it by myself, but it took SO long. I’m talking about at least an hour. Now nobody has time for that or the patience for that. I even had my mother once upon a time iron my hair. Yes, you read that right…iron! Not with a flat iron, but with an actual clothing iron. Back in the day that was the thing to do at least in our Assyrian household, haha!
But, you grow and you learn. The best thing also is technology advances and thank you God for that!

So let’s get started with my top five curly hair hacks!

1. You need a good conditioner

A conditioner is key in the showering process to make sure that you relax and soften your hair. It makes it so much easier when you style your hair after. I’ve tried not using a conditioner and my hair is SO dry and unmanageable.

2. You need a good comb

I like a wide tooth comb versus a brush. I feel like a brush pulls out my hair and makes it so much frizzier than when I use a comb. I also don’t comb my hair right away until I’ve added the Vitamin E oil to my hair.

3. Vitamin E Oil

This is my holy grail hair product that I can never live without. I’ve been using it for over a year and I can’t even begin to describe what it’s done to my hair! It makes it so much softer, shinier and healthier. I use it every single time I take my hair a shower even when I don’t plan on styling it. It’s hair food and I love it! I put about a quarter sized amount into my hands and rub it to the lower half part of my hair and work my way up to the roots.

            4. Rene Furterer Straightening Gel

I love straightening my hair. Gone are the days that I used to mousse and hairspray my hair. So to make my life easier and to make my hair look extra nice I use this gel before I straighten my hair. I stumbled across this little gem while I was getting my haircut where my cousin works at Teddy Kossof. I’ve been using it for a little over four months and it’s definitely a keeper!

5. Use a shampoo that is sulfate free

One thing you need to know is that sulfates strip your hair off of its natural protein. Our hair is made up of protein and if you get keratin done like I do the last thing you want to do is use a shampoo with sulfate. I like all of Wella’s shampoos that are sulfate free. They work great for my hair.

Hope you guys enjoyed this!

I don't have curly hair, but always appreciate people sharing tips on how to do hair because I have the most unruly straight hair. If I don't blow dry it, it is absolutely crazy, frizzy and uncontrollable and knowing what other people do can sometimes helpe how to manage it. I love using a good leave-in repair oil and conditioner. They both go such a long way in achieving a great shine.
